Start with seating and powertrain: EMZOOM suits buyers seeking a compact five-seat petrol SUV; GS8 adds three-row SUV accommodation; Mexico's current GS7 PHEV serves buyers who want a plug-in SUV; and M8 prioritises MPV passenger space. These are different buying roles, and their specifications must be matched to the country and version.
Four model names, four different starting points
There is no single GAC model that is the best answer for every family. A household with a small parking space faces a different decision from one carrying grandparents every weekend. The useful first split is between five-seat transport and regular three-row use, followed by whether the household can conveniently charge a plug-in vehicle.
This guide compares roles using official market examples. It does not imply that all four vehicles, or the exact versions described, are available together in every country. Prices are deliberately not ranked across currencies and tax systems.
EMZOOM: a smaller petrol SUV
GAC Australia's EMZOOM specification lists five seats, a 4,410 mm length and a 2,650 mm wheelbase. Its 1.5-litre turbo engine produces 125 kW and 270 Nm, driving the front wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Our interpretation is that EMZOOM is the logical first comparison for someone who wants ordinary petrol refuelling and does not need a third row. Its smaller length is relevant to urban parking. That does not make it the roomiest option for a large family, and its five-seat layout is a hard limit rather than a matter of trim.
The Australian table also differentiates Premium and Luxury equipment, so features such as the panoramic roof and powered tailgate should not be assumed on every EMZOOM.
How are GAC EMZOOM global sales performing?
The sources reviewed do not provide a complete, consistently defined worldwide EMZOOM retail-sales total. GAC's July 2026 corporate milestone report describes local momentum, including a claimed leading B-SUV position in Lebanon and sales growth in selected African markets. These manufacturer-reported examples show international activity; they do not establish an audited global model total.
Keep EMZOOM sales separate from total GAC exports, production milestones and registrations in individual countries. A cumulative production count cannot be relabelled annual worldwide retail sales. We therefore do not assign a global sales ranking or invent a model total.
GS8: three-row SUV accommodation
The Kuwait GS8 specification lists seven passengers including the driver, a 4,980 mm length and a 2,920 mm wheelbase. It shows both two-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive trims, and luggage capacity varying from 181 to 1,859 litres with the seating arrangement.
That range illustrates the central compromise of a three-row SUV: more occupied seats leave less room for luggage. The maximum cargo number describes a very different use case from a fully occupied holiday trip. Someone routinely carrying seven people should assess their luggage together with the third row in use.
GS8 therefore deserves attention when occasional or regular extra seating matters, but a seven-seat label alone does not establish adult comfort in the back row or sufficient cargo room for seven travellers.
Is the GS8 a good seven-seat intelligent SUV?
On specifications, the Kuwait-market GS8 is a candidate for buyers needing seven seats and available driving assistance, provided the chosen trim includes those functions. Its official equipment table lists adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking and lane-keeping assistance on GT 2WD, GT AWD and GX AWD, but not GL 2WD or GL AWD. A 14.6-inch central display is listed across those trims.
That makes trim selection material: a base seven-seat GS8 is not the same assistance package as a GT or GX. The specification supports a conditional shortlist, not a hands-on verdict about ride quality, system calibration or third-row comfort.
GS7 PHEV: specify the newer Mexican model
The GS7 name requires care. Here it means the current Mexican GS7 PHEV, not the older petrol Trumpchi GS7. The currently published Mexican specification PDF, labelled GS7 2027, compares 2WD and 4WD versions.
Both receive a 15.6-inch central screen. The table distinguishes a 12-speaker system on 2WD from a 22-speaker system on 4WD; the latter also receives a 27-inch head-up display. This makes the upper trim a broader equipment decision, rather than merely a change in driven wheels.
A plug-in hybrid deserves particular consideration when it can be charged regularly. If charging would rarely happen, calculate the ownership case around that actual routine instead of treating its electric capability as an automatic saving.
What is the GS7 PHEV range, and what can this review establish?
The September 2026 Mexican sheet, labelled GS7 2027, specifies a 21.3 kWh battery and 103 km of NEDC electric range for 2WD, versus 36.3 kWh and 150 km NEDC for 4WD. These are battery-only test-cycle figures, not total petrol-plus-electric range, WLTP values or measured motorway results.
The larger battery is therefore a substantive reason to compare 4WD with 2WD alongside its equipment. Whether the difference justifies its local price depends on daily distance and charging access. This is a specification review; no road test, depleted-battery fuel-consumption test or real-world range measurement was conducted for this article.
M8: when passenger accommodation is the priority
GAC's official M8 and E9 comparison describes the petrol M8 as a large three-row MPV with a 2.0T engine, a 5,212 mm body and a 3,070 mm wheelbase. Its emphasis is passenger accommodation and rear-seat amenities. These statements concern the M8 described in that source; other markets also use the M8 name for different powertrain offerings.
Our judgement is that an MPV should be considered early when rear passengers are the main priority. It need not be the fallback after comparing SUVs. The trade-off is its larger exterior footprint: parking length and access to your usual spaces become part of the decision.
Which celebrities are documented as GAC M8 owners?
GAC's published accounts identify Bie Thassapak and Tony Jaa in connection with M8 PHEV ownership. The 9 August 2025 Thai launch report describes Bie Thassapak as a celebrity car owner attending with his family. A 19 July 2026 GAC report documents handing the right-hand-drive M8 PHEV's keys to Thai owner Tony Jaa at the 16 July event.
These are attributed manufacturer reports, not a verified list of privately purchased cars or evidence of present ownership. A brand ambassador appearance or reservation alone would not establish delivery. Celebrity association also does not establish vehicle quality.
A useful order for the final decision
Choose the required seats first, then the charging or refuelling routine, and finally the comfort features. This order prevents an attractive screen or a maximum luggage figure from obscuring a basic mismatch. For each shortlisted car, obtain the local equipment sheet and price for the actual version. Brand-wide claims, overseas promotional photographs and another country's specification cannot replace that document.
